My Review: What A Time To Be Alive

What's good y'all, it's me again yourboy_john aka 2 Scoops aka John "don't forget the C" Williams. I'm going to give my take on one of my favorite albums of the year, the Future and Drake collabo What A Time To Be Alive (WATTBA).

When I first heard about this album happening, I knew I'd seen this movie before. An artist is hot, Drake notices, then he hops on a track with them, and on said track the only part people want to listen to is Drake's verse. For example, the Versace remix by Migos feat. Drake or Tuesday remix by ILoveMakonnen feat. Drake or most recently My Way remix by Fetty Wap feat. Drake. So it's only natural for Drake to work with Future because he's been pretty hot in these streets and DS2 is 100% fire. But the only difference with WATTBA is that Future out shines Drake on this project, which is a little crazy when you think about.

Oh yea, can anyone tell me what this collabo actually is. I thought it was a mixtape but then it cost like 10 bucks on iTunes so that makes it an album I guess?

But anyways lets get back to the music.

  • This is essentially a Future album with a bunch of Drake features and I love it
A lot of the songs sound like they could've been on Futures most recent album, DS2, and I'm ok with that because after DS2 all I wanted was more Future. During every song I'm thinking "where's Drake at?............Oh, sweet there he his." So can you really call this a full collabo, my opinion is no but I'm not complaining because all the songs are bangers.

  • Even though this seems more like a Future project, Drake still finds a way to shine
Coming into this I had ZERO idea how Drake was going to sound like. Cus first of all, I think we can agree that Future is "harder" than Drake. So hearing about this collabo at first I didn't Drake would mesh well with Futures style of hip hop. But it all ended well. The song Live From The Gutter, Drake went off lowkey. Who knew Drake could spit about that gutter life. On Digital Dash, I'm not going to lie, Drake surprised me a little bit. That's a good thing.

  • The songs that sound more Drake influenced are really good, Diamonds Dancing is my favorite song on the album
Even though Future was essentially in charge of this project, Drake still finds a way to get his work in to. Diamonds Dancing, Plastic Bag, Change Locations, and 30 for 30 freestyle feel more like Drake songs than Future songs. Diamonds Dancing goes all the way in, it's super smooth and it's basically Drake and Future singing a duet which I never thought would happen in my lifetime. Plastic Bag is your classic anthem for all them strippers out here makin a livin. In Change Locations, Drake has a crazy nice verse and 30 for 30 Freestyle is classic Drake.

  • Why is Jumpman such a great song?
I know I said Diamonds Dancing is my favorite song off the album but Jumpman tho. That's the song you play after you played a couple of throwback songs at a party. Jumpman is the type of song you play when read your email before going to class and you found just got paid. Jumpman is the type of song you play when that one girl you've been peepin at in class comes up to you and starts talkin to you and in your head you're like, "Jumpman Jumpman Jumpman....." There's a plethora of scenarios where this song is appropriate.

  • WATTBA is one of my favorite albums of the year
This isn't the very best of the year but it's for sure in my top 5 along with these works of art (in no particular order) Compton, To Pimp A Butterfly, Coming Home, and Surf

Keep Moving Podcast

What's good everyone, it's been awhile since doing one of these but it's whatever. Me and the homie, Patrick decided to start a podcast, the Keep Moving Podcast. This basically a few friends talking about whatever we want. We start out with a weekly top 5. This is where we list 5 of our favorite things from the week. Then we educate the people on what we're listening to with our weekly playlist. After that we like to introduce our guest, if we have one, then we go to our main topic which we decide behind the scenes. So basically whenever a new episode of the podcast drops, you'll find it here. Below are the first two episodes, we touch on a lot of topics so it should be an entertaining listen.

The Wrap Up

What's good y'all, it's yourboy_john (follow on twitter if you like) aka 2 Scoops. Now I'd like to start doing a little something called The Wrap Up where I sort of go through some stuff that happened this past week. These will be a little longer than usual but it'll also give you something to look forward to on Mondays.
Germany won the World Cup!!!
It's about time the World Cup ended if you ask me. It's not that I don't care, I just low key lost interest when America got beat by Belgium awhile ago and because I don't really care. I'll still take anyone on in a game of FIFA though, I'm unstoppable with AC Milan. And Mario Gotze is super clutch for that game winning goal. But I sort of forgot about the World Cup this week because of that whole Lebron going back to Cleveland thing, much more important.

Cleveland has got to be the luckiest and unluckiest franchise at the same time in all of sports. 1) They get every first draft pick whenever they want and 2) They get to have Lebron whenever they want. The only unlucky part is that they still suck and will probably always suck.
There's also word on the street that Drake is looking at houses in Cleveland. This is almost to good to be true. I'm all about Drake but he's an avid nut hugger of Lebron, so is ESPN. But that's none of my business either.
Another really important thing that happened this week is that I started playing Roller Coaster Tycoon again. That was best thing that could've ever happened to me last week. That game is such a great game, I had to tweet about it.

Ever since opening John's Fun Place to the public, I've been able to live again. Such a great feeling. When I was little my theme parks were lame because I didn't know then what I know now. But now as grown man my brain is full of things that should be put into a theme park. Hence the giant system of swimming pools carving through the park like it's the Mississippi River and all the tigers and camels walking around. John's Fun Place is so fun you'll never want anything else in your life, facts only.

Here's some tunes I ran into since my last post, it's been awhile. Happy Monday.

Buy The World - Mike Will Made It feat. Future, Lil Wayne and Kendrick Lamar

Old English feat. Young Thug, Freddie Gibbs and A$AP Ferg

Seen It All - Jeezy Feat. Jay Z

Kirko Bangz can ball

This is the same guy who has that one song that sounds cool. You don't know what song I'm talking about, here you go.

I always wondered what one hit wonders did after making their one hit. If you're Soulja Boy you continue making garbage songs. But if you're Kirko Bangz you play in celebrity basketball games and get buckets.

Jungle Remix - X Ambassadors & Jamie N Commons feat. Jay Z

This song is so World Cup, it screams drop everything and watch soccer. Jay spits mad fire and the beat pumps you up to the highest level. After listening to this, I'm ready to take on the world by myself or something.

Childish Gambino and Chance the Rapper working on a joint EP

This is the best news I've heard all day, two of my favorite rappers working together on an EP. These guys are good by themselves but together, they're unstoppable. Don't believe me, just listen for yourself.

Y'all need to get excited, because I am.

Looking For You - Justin Bieber feat. Migos

Is this not what MLK was dreaming about, talk about progress. So Justin Bieber has been trying to be a black guy his whole career, so he must be trying pretty hard if he got Migos on this song. But the thing is I don't know whether to be happy for Bieber for having a song with Migos or to be sad for Migos because they're on a Justin Bieber track. That being said, I don't know if I like the song yet, only time will tell.

About The Money - T.I. feat. Young Thug

So here's T.I. still trying to stay relevant. I'm going to be honest, his best years are behind him. But this song is straight fire though. This is two Atlanta rappers, collabing to make good music. I give it two thumbs up.

Up Down Remix - T-Pain feat. Kid Ink, Lil Boosie & B.O.B.

Goodness, this isn't a remix this is a brand new song. I love it. T-Pain is killing the one hit wonder game right now. I was just trying to think of a bad T-Pain song and I couldn't think of anything. How many other artists can you say that about, not many.

P.S. FREE BOOSIE! Even though he's already free I feel like I still have to say that.

Off The Corner - Meek Mill feat. Rick Ross

Now this song is straight fire. It's Meek Mill doing what he does best, make songs. My favorite part of this song is the beat, I could listen to this for days. Even though I'm not a fan of Rick Ross, I actually enjoy his part. Mill is speaking truth, because he graduated from the streets, no diploma. Facts only.

Lupita Nyong'o named People Magazine's Most Beautiful Woman

This is what I'm talking about, Lupita Nyong'o was named People Magazine's most beautiful woman this year. As of now this is Lupita's world and we're all just living in it. She has an Oscar, she's Lancome's first black spokesperson, and she's besties with Oprah (according to this picture).

Once you're on Oprah's friend list there's nothing bad that can happen to you. Even if something bad does happen to you, all you do to fix it is remember that Oprah is your friend, problem solved. Oprah = total win.

She even has a shoutout from Jay Z in this track. We Made It!

Atlanta to get their own MLS team

A soccer team in Atlanta, that's the best news I've heard all week. Remember when the Atlanta Thrashers were a thing? That was cool or whatever. Whose idea was it to have a hockey team in Georgia anyway, I thought everyone knew that hockey and black people don't really go together. I've been to one game and I would've enjoyed it if people told me it would be 100 degrees cooler than it was outside beforehand. Anyways, hopefully this new soccer team can bring home a championship somehow, that'd be even more amazing. Falcons owner, Arthur Blank, is going to own the team, which is more good news for me.

I found some concept jersey designs
I like the idea of having the Varsity and Coke as sponsers for the team, marketing greatness. Here's my list of potential team names: 1. Outkasts. That's all I have and it's all I need. Arthur Blank better take this and run with it. The name is perfect on so many levels, the Atlanta Outkasts = championships. I also have the teams theme song, cue music.

P.S. The Atlanta Outkasts are going to be so hood

Outkast is back!

Outkast began their 20th anniversary tour this weekend at Coachella. This is great, this what I've been waiting for. Andre 3000 and Big Boi together on stage doing what they do best, spit bars. Don't take for granted that they are back performing again because this is one of the greatest rappers of all time and Big Boi, and you'll be able to see both of them on stage. I can't wait for them to come up to Milwaukee, they'll be at Summerfest this year along with a bunch of Atlanta artists, Ludacris, B.O.B. and Usher. Summerfest will be crackin', as the kids say nowadays.

Oh yea, here's a couple Outkast songs to get your earbuds warmed up (especially for those who've only heard Hey Ya)

Texas Tech Dance Off

This is just your casual dance off during practice at Texas Tech, no big deal. The coach, Kliff Kingsbury, had a decent stanky leg at the end, I was impressed. I also couldn't help but cringe while watching Tyler Scalzi, #50, dance to Soulja Boy. Just when I thought nothing could make me dislike Soulja Boy more than I already do, Tyler comes along and does who knows what during that song.

Side note: Does this look like a guy who can do the stanky leg or nah?? This coach is too cool for school, literally.

Chance the Rapper puts up a new song

So Chance released another banger, The Writer. This guy refuses to make garbage songs doesn't he. Just taking the rap scene by storm and he hasn't put out an official album yet. If you haven't heard of him do yourself a favor and listen to some of his stuff.
